I look at you and you look ahead
I frown and you do not see
I speak but you make no reaction
I speak again and you say you hear me.

So yes, you hear me.
But are you listening?
Am I making contact?

Hearing and listening
Confuse them not as synonyms
Not for each other

Hearing is at the surface,
Simply hovering but doing nothing
But listening is absorption,
The words going deep, deep within and taking affect.
Are they making contact?

You tell me again that you hear,
But are you listening?

I stomp, I yell
I scream, I cry
But all you can do is hear me.
How on Earth do I make contact?

But you are unaware of my struggle
My words simply bounce off your bubble
No matter how hard I try
How I try to make contact!

So I wait and stare
Wait for you to turn for me
Stare to get it through your head
You must be able to listen to that!

Surely if my words don’t reach you
My silence must!

So I stare on and on.
I am forced to wait for contact.

Yay, a new poem up! :excited:

Finding the right category for work gets tougher and tougher. I'm always ttly confused! Oh well, until then I'll just stick with educated guesses.

This is a poem I wrote not to long ago and, for once, it didn't need to be rushed! I'm rather proud of this one. The idea came to from a scene in this movie, Why Did I Get Married?, and I've been yearning to write something about it.
But I'm just eager to find out what y'all think! Please comment! :)

Interesting comparison there.

I think it's quite powerful, especially at the end there. Your words portray the message well.

It's amazing how you described so well so the huge gap that exists between hearing and listening, like the one that exists between talking and speaking.
I just love it! If anyone could pay more attention to the other, if anyone could at least try to 'make contact', then the world surely would be a better place.

I really, really like this!! you do a good job getting your audience to feel the frustration in your words.

Wow! thank you so much for your words Binta! :blushes:

It's always amazing how words and things that seem soo much a like can be so different! I really wanted to bring that out here. There are just so many little things that need to be done to make everything just a little bit better. :)
